Google Docs adds new languages to mobile editing PDF Print E-mail

Indicating at the growing importance of mobile access for business applications, Google just added support for 44 new languages to Google Docs mobile editing ability. What this means is that users with documents Google Docs in languages like Spanish can simply get on their mobile devices and make changes. This is indeed a very compelling feature that would attract users from other online document management solutions.

"With Google Docs, we're always trying to make you more productive – and part of that means making it possible for you to get things done from anywhere, at anytime," Google software engineer Andrew Grieve commented on the new feature.

Mobile access is increasingly important to workers who are ever more likely to be out of the office, but still want access to business email, calendars or documents. Google Docs' browser editing capabilities fit well with mobile browsers, which are now almost as powerful as desktop browsers. This is an area Microsoft has lagged behind, as SharePoint, its document manager, does not provide any inbuilt capability to edit documents on mobile devices.

As always, Microsoft is going to have to play catch up later.
